Dr.  Phil  Min
Band Director


Phil Min has been a band director in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi for over 35 years. His teaching has covered wide range of assignments, from fifth-grade through university level. Phil presently serves as band director at Bragg Middle School in Gardendale, AL, returning to teaching in Alabama after several years as Associate Director of Bands at Mississippi State University. Bands under his direction have consistently won many honors and have been selected for performances at state and regional conventions. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1977), and Master of Education (1987) and Doctor of Musical Arts (2001) degrees from the University of Memphis. In addition to working as a band director, Phil served for a dozen seasons as an instructor for several drum and bugle corps, including Spirit of Atlanta, Avant Garde, and the Ventures. Twice a recipient of the National Band Association's "Citation of Excellence", he is widely in demand as a clinician and adjudicator. Dr. Min is an avid runner and has completed over 240 marathons and finished a 100 mile run in 2016. He has been a member of the Vestavia Hills Lions Club for over 20 years, currently serving as Secretary. He resides in Gardendale with his wife, Leigh Ann, who is Chaplain/Pastoral Care Manager at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, AL.
